Rainbow Rumpus for Kids of Gay & Lesbian Parents

Rainbow Rumpus, the online magazine for kids and teens with LGBT parents, is launching a free series of downloadable books designed to fight bullying and promote acceptance. Each book tells a story about a child with lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender parents, and gives parents and teachers tools for talking about family diversity.

The series has been recognized as an important new tool by both educators and curriculum developers. “These types of books are difficult to find at the library,” noted one teacher, “and I think it’s important to have them in the classroom.” The benefits to students are enhanced by a teachers’ guide included with each title.

Is it just a “Gay Phase” ???

Some people will tell you that it’s just a “phase” you are going through.  And while this might be true for some people (there are more straight people out there after all),  a large majority of gay and lesbian questioning people that try having sex will usually find that it just “feels right.”

Although, some ultra religious organizations will tell you that they can stop this and “cure” you from your gay feelings, just stop and ask yourself why they want to change something that they didn’t create?  The world is made up of people of every variation and that includes you just the way you are!

Most men go through a sexual awakening during their puberty and explore sex in many different manners.  College is usually the first exploration of anyone going for new sexual experiments.

Everybody has different “phases” they go through in their lives – birth, childhood, school, college, work, etc.  We are all sexual beings.  Everyone is different in the manners in which they have sex.  Some people want to be with one person their whole life, while others can’t handle that.  Just be sure that you find one makes you feel good and don’t let other people tell you that your love is wrong.  To be gay or lesbian is NOT a bad thing, it is just different from others (like everyone else is).

Definitions of the Word GAY

Gay Men

The definition of the word “Gay” has evolved from its original meaning as “happy, merry and joyous” or “bright and showy.”   Around the 17th century, the word took on several new sexual meanings as well – a gay woman was a prostitute and a gay man was a womanizer.  Then around early 1900, the term came to be used with men who preferred being with men and women with women. Later the word “lesbian” came into our vocabulary as well.

Today, the term is used to describe a person who enjoys the companionship of the same sex.  It also is a generalized term to mean any two persons of the same sex that live together, have sexual relations together, and even have families with children together.

A great history reference would be Wikipedia’s lengthy writeup on the term here.
